George Hungerford [it said], went to Kevin Boyle’s tonight. He sat down by his fire and put his feet on his fender. He talked to Kevin Boyle about his work. If I told all I knew how his fine speeches would fly out the window. The martyr, suffering about so they will comfort him. Oh, no, Mr. Hungerford, don’t go there! You’re too weak, too feeble—let us take care of you, we understand. So he goes to Kevin Boyle, all love and fawning. I come too. I knock at the door, I beat on the window. Will I tell Kevin Boyle to go away? No, I will not! I will tell him to stay here, to lie on my breast, to know what warmth is—not sit by the fire with dry old men. Oh, Kevin Boyle! I cry, but George Hungerford will not let my voice be heard. He is all Go Away, and For the Sake of Your Work. Old hypocrite! I will finish you. . . .
